3 club members of Salmon leap would be representing Ireland at the Junior & U23 World Championships in Portugal.
The team would consist of:
K1 200 & 500m Junior girls Eabha Ni Descoil
K1 1000m U23 Ronan Foley
K1 200m U23 Ryan O’Connor.
In the Mens U23 Ronan had a great heat and looked comfortable to make it to the semi final where the real fighting begins to make that A final, Ronan in the semi got of to a good start but the other boats were stronger in the later stage of the 1000m, Ronan qualified for the C final but sadly due to a postponement of racing the next day due to fog, he missed his final as had to catch a flight home.
In the Junior girls Eabha had some exciting racing for her first timeout at a ICF major championships, she came away with a new Personal best a new national record and 2* B finals. In the K1 500m Eabha ranked 15th and in the 200m ranked 16th, this was a great learning curve for Eabha and some brilliant results achieved along the way. Then the speedy race of the U23 mens K1 200 was up and Ryan O’Connor had a brilliant semi final to make his first U23 B final at a World Championships. In the Final Ryan had a great start but was lacking in the later stages, Ryan finished the race in 9th place giving him a world ranking of 18th.
