After a long awaited return to International racing our club senior members would be competing at the European Olympic Qualifier and World Cup 1 in Szeged, Hungary.
Jenny Egan K1 200m European Qualifier, k1 200m & 5k World Cup 1
Ronan Foley K1 1000m, 500m and 5k World Cup 1.
To start the week of well Jenny Egan made the A final of the European Olympic Qualifier which would se her fight it out against 9 other women who were looking to book one of the two spots up for grabs. Jenny had a great race and finished in a respectable 8th place.
World Cup 1…
Ronan would be back racing in a very competitive mens field, Ronan had some great racing to see him qualify for the C final of the K1 1000m. He had one of his best senior debuts to finish in 4th place! giving Ronan an overall position of 22nd, sadly Ronan didn’t make it out of the heats in the k1 500m but Later on in the weekend he would race the 5k. He had a great first half to the race seeing him catch up to the 2nd group, sadly he saw himself the wrong side of the body at a turn, having to back paddle and go again to finish the race in 17th position.
Jenny sadly didn’t get tout of the heats of the 200m after a hectic and stressful few days before the world cup with the European Qualifiers. Jennys favourite race the 5k was later on in the weekend. Having a great start she was in the mix for a medal, when due to another competitor hitting her paddle and causing Jenny to fall in with only 1k to go all hopes for a medal were gone. A very disappointing end to world cup 1 for Jenny.
But not time to think about it as Jenny would later head on to the last chance to grab a ticket to Tokyo in Russia at the World global Olympic qualifications. All the best Jenny we all hope it goes well for you! !
