Start Canoeing

Interested in Canoeing? Salmon Leap Canoe Club welcomes people interested in taking up canoeing. Introductory training courses are run throughout the summer from June to August. Courses run for 2 weeks with 5 paddling sessions each week. The cost of the course starts at €120 for Juniors and there are packages for Seniors and Families. This includes 10 training sessions and the provision of basic equipment such as; boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, cags and some wetsuits. We recommend that beginners be aged 12 or over. You must be able to swim 100m in canoeing clothes, (thermal top, T shirt and shorts). At the end of a course, full membership is open to those that wish to continue with the sport. Canoeing continues throughout the year with regular paddling on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the summer months and on Saturday and Sunday mornings all year. During the winter months many paddlers continue training in the club on Tuesday and Thursday evenings by doing gym workouts and running. Salmon Leap Canoe Club is Ireland's most successful kayak racing club in marathon, sprint and slalom racing. Joining the club is an ideal opportunity to take up competitive kayak racing, competing on both national and international circuits.
